Joyce Lenear Sherrill

Combining 2 things that i do for others, quilting and helping people solve their adoption mysteries.

Joyce gave a child to adoption and in 2023, that daughter reached out to me to help solve her mystery.

Joyce had lived a hard life by most accounts but today is safe and secure in an assisted living home.

She thought she was all alone with no family but there was a large extended family who had wondered where she was for many years.

I thought she needed a quilt amd now she has one!

Underground Railroad, monkey wrench

Next up, the monkey wrench.

1st Friday quilters Sept 23, block 1

We are making the Underground Railroad by Eleanor Burns. We are not going in order but instead, I am going to work through the easiest blocks first.

I screwed up this block.  I managed to use 2 colors instead of 3.

Honoring those who have served in our military is a hallmark of the Quilts of Valor organization.  Today, the 1st Friday group worked on quilts of Valor.  They are wonderful.

I decided on the dark gray Kona borders.  It needs a top and bottom and then to the quilt machine.

A Mouse in the House

This panel was bought with someone special in mind but as things happen, it might be a bit too young as I took too long to make it. The quilt will evolve.  Quilting will really make it nice.

Panels

I have many panels.  They are so cute!

A friend called to tell me that she can't find Dick and Jane fabric.  A friend of hers is on the hunt for it.

I knew exactly where to find some, in my stash.

Cowboys

Every once in a bit, I buy someone else's project that was started.  The package was marked string bag and had some cowboy fabric in it.  I had a cowboy panel and a new quilt has begun.

Block magazine wall hanging

The pattern for this crib size quilt was actually for a wall hanging.  Nah, I like baby quilts, so I made the back bigger and bingo.

working on next year's graduation gift

I'm clearing out some row by row quilt blocks and I have made some changes to one of them.  Emma is in ROTC and plans military service as her future so I am going to make her quilt with some extra red white and blue parts.  This star is part of a Nebraska themed row.  Watch for more installments.

Memory quilt for Wesley

He had a sparkle and a smile but was only with his mom and dad for a few short weeks.

I used 2 recieving blanks and some of his clothes.  It was the hardest quilt I have ever made.

It is a number of row by row blocks and i made it as a quilt as you go quilt adding her name and her scool.  I started this several years and planned to give it to her.  Another great success.

Coffee shop sharing

Let's face it, I have a lot of sewing stuff. When Sonja from the coffee shop was showing me a puzzle box of tools she got with a vintage 1900ish treadle machine, I decided to gift her a package of needles to go with it.  They are packaged in a round wooden cylinder.  How cool is that? Apparently, a package of needles were .29 back in the day!

Another baby quilt

This one is headed to the Saunders County Museum for a 60's themed fundraiser.

Baby quilts on the agenda

I am working through my UFO, unfinished objects and plan to complete all the baby quilts in my stash. Today I completed quilting on the long arm 2 of the stack.

This designer is a favorite of mine
I have a few more panels with the same designer. The quilt has been gifted to Evie Wellman.

Organize, reorganize, wash, rinse, repeat

It seems just a few years since I had to pause and work in my sewing room. Time to assess what works and what does not. A good pressing station has been something I desperately needed.

Not I have one! I repurposed 6 30" tall shoe organizers, added bed risers to lift it high enough and made a nice top for it.

Now it is my folding station.

Mailed!

Yesterday 5 quilts were mailed to their forever homes. 2 string quilts went to my nephews, Mathew and John and a patchwork went to their mom, Jodi in Wyoming. That means everyone in my brother's family now has a quilt.

A baby quilt went to hay springs ne and finally, Blast of Color went to Illinois to Cousin Sue's house. Yippee. I love the lime green binding.

Oh the Pain!

I have lost the power cord for my sewing machine. She is a vintage beauty, pfaff 1471.

Good news is that I found cord to fit!

Coming Attractions

What's next? I think I know and then I change my mind!

But I would like to get cousin Sue's Color Burst done and mailed. I have decided on green binding. It will be pretty.

Yet Another Scrappy Quilt

What to do with all the little bits and strips? Make a string quilt. This one is headed to Wyoming and my nephew John Ray. The rain boots is on the back of the quilt. Because John is tall, i made this larger than my normal 60" square quilt.

Next Up!

Next up is my new favorite saying and it means, next up for my next quilt to long arm. So here it is!

Orange Disappearing 9 patch

Gracie started this quilt a few years ago. She was drawn to the orange colors in a set of fat quarters.  It was finished with yellow binding and turned out really cute.

Halloween Throw

This spinning stars quilt has been waiting to be quilted for more than 10 years.  I made a much bigger version and gave it to my #2 grandson, Gage.

I believe this will end up with another grandchild in 2023.

This quilt pattern is called "art Deco" by Donna Robinson, Fabric Cafe. It is a 3 yard quilt pattern. These are fast and easy.

I did some close quilting on it and I'm still working on it.

You Are My Sunshine

This quilt was the idea of my friend, Debbie, who saw a similiar quilt on pinterest. We both bought the panels and made similiar quilts.

I used a meandering quilt motif and vibrant fabric for the backlog the quilt.

Honor Quilt by Villa Rosa

I bought this kit and pattern together and liked the pattern so well I have made it at least 4 times! Finally, the one that started my love of this pattern is now quilted. I used a mint green thread and meandered. It has gray, green and blues, all rather subdued for colors. This gift was gifted to the church's music director, Mary Dodd when she married.

Rail fence quilt

I have been away from my log arm machine for more than a month and I need the practice before starting on a few other quilts for friends. So I decided this would be the first one to play around on before starting on the stack! Tomorrow ill work on getting it ready for binding.

Small and Vibrant

While this quilt is about a baby size and only uses 6 fat quarters it is quick to make. I used Kaffe fassett fabrics.

A Grammie and Gracie Quilt

Grace has decided to make a quilt as a gift for a family member. She needed some inspiration and we found it in a villa rosa pattern for a panel quilt. It is
turning out cute.

A new sampler

I have been thinking about making a sampler for a few months.  I'm picking patterns that are old school and classic. This quilt will go a friend and I want it suitable for a guy. The primary colors will be blues and browns. I'm not sure that I love the log cabin but this is what I have completed so far.

Home Sweet Home

Christmas came on Christmas and new years day.  Today Bea took home a quilt we worked on together and a quilt that is her Christmas gift.  I like to call this a hut house quilt.  It is colorful and fun!

Iyla's Dressed to the Nines

This is a favorite baby girl quilt.  I wish I could invent time as I could make them and have on the shelf!  It requires applique and blanke...
