What is Next?

Making quilt tops is creative and fun but what is next?  I have to quilt it on my long arm machine!
This is the scrappy quilt made from left over binding.

This quilt was a friend's quilt.  The pattern is called "Winter Village".  Watch for more on this pattern.

Cold Winter Quilts

Cold Nebraska winter days make my quilts a sought after gift!  This quilt belongs to my granddaughter and the pattern was created by 4th and Main, Scott Flanagan.   The quilt is really pretty basic and uses a layer cake (10" squares) and some background fabric. This is a quilt top you could make on a cold winter's day.

Pioneer Sampler - 1st Friday Quilters

I sew with a great group of ladies.  Typically, we select a pattern and several of us will do "a sew along" making the same pattern in our own colorways.  A couple of years ago, we worked on an older book, "Pioneer Sampler" for our quilt.

Samplers are made up of various blocks and help us learn new skills.

The variety was just wonderful!! My quilts were closer to old school traditional colors.  I competed 2 of these quilts and just finally finished the last 2 blocks for my 3rd version.

I hope to finish the 3rd top before January 1, 2022.  We shall see!
Honestly, I wasn't crazy about 1 block to I got creative and made my own pattern!

This is a photo of the book cover.  This is a great quilt and was a great deal of fun to do with a group of stitchers!

Binding Scrap Quilt for grandson Gage

My goal is to use up as many scraps as possible by the end of 2022.  I might make a dent in my scraps but then again, I clearly have so many left to do.

This busy quilt is made up from the 2.5" scraps left over from binding.  That is a great number of binding strips!

Almost a log cabin

By now you be wondering, just how many quilts do I plan to make.  Even I don't have an answer for that question.  I found another way to use up 2.5" strips.  It looks like a log cabin but I started my rotation of strips with 2 darks and should have used 2 lights.  The blocks are ready to put together.

Scrappy Stars

Will I ever use up all my scraps?

It is quite unlikely. I just have so many!  This quilt is all about the 5" block. Notice how many Christmas fabrics I used.

I learned some lessons with this quilt.  The most important is to keep my stars in the light and bright white fabric.

The quilting on this one is pretty good and it is a present for a granddaughter.

Another Fun Scrappy Quilt

I just love mixed up fabrics for quilts. This quilt is a lovely lap size and starts with a 4.5" center and 2.5" strips working around to make a 12.5" block.  The best part is that I am working on clearing out the scrap box.

Sail away

What happens when you need a baby quilt?

Find the right pattern and about 2.5 yards of fabric for the top and you can achieve success.

This cutie is using a couple of fat quarters for the sails, a yard of that royal blue and half a yard of the red for the boat bottom.

This image is a work in progress but the finished project should be wonderful.

A great house quilt!

My small quilt group that meets monthly are making quilts that are houses and barns.  The barn patterns were from Lori Holt's "Vintage Farm Girl" book.  It really is a wonderful book and I love her tutorials on youtube.com.

For my house quilt, I used a mix of scraps and some newly purchased fabric.

The 12.5" block with various sashing makes for a busy but fun quilt.  The block is really quite simple and fast to make.  I will post the Halloween version when I get it finished.

Halloween themed block will make a great quilt for the autumn.

Reproduction fabric is theme of the completed quilt below.

Three Yard Quilts in Progress

I own several of Donna Robertson's "Three Yard Quilt Books".  They are quick and easy and if you need a gift in a hurry, these quilts are just the right option.  While these quilts have been finished and went to their forever home, I have kept several for myself.

Donna's designs are easy, and her books are super easy to understand.  I often add additional borders to the quilts to increase the size.  You start with 3 one-yard cuts of fabric and will need additional fabric for the back and I like a double fold vs. economy binding.  I find the double fold binding to be sturdy and longer lasting.

The first quilt is called "Checkerboard" and I used a large-scale print that would be lost if I had cut it into smaller pieces.  This is one of my favorite patterns as it really allows me to showcase the big prints.

What's up with the scraps?

Hey everyone, I'm gearing up to share some quilting patterns that I have drafted and want to share.  I once took a quilting class and the teacher stated that since you purchased all that fabric, make sure you use all that fabric.  Meaning, don't let scraps go unused!

My goal is to create a few quilts using at least 50% of scraps from my scrap fabric totes.  Yes, I have been a quilter for about 20 years and I have a large selection of scrap fabrics that will turn into some lovely quilts.

The question then becomes what to do with all those quilts?  I live in a cold climate and there is no shortage of people and family members who would like to have a nice warm cozy quilt.

Quilts are more than blankets.  They are art.

Watch for my patterns and my posts!

I am also in a couple of quilt groups and we like to sew together and share some of our work with our local Christmas donation supply drive. What could be more wonderful that giving a gift that keeps you warm during cold winter months?

Iyla's Dressed to the Nines

This is a favorite baby girl quilt.  I wish I could invent time as I could make them and have on the shelf!  It requires applique and blanke...
